The Fixer is a historical gay romance and film-noir mystery by Jordan Demaine, set in Los Angeles in 1938.
The story follows Tommy Wiseman, a young screenwriter, and Jack Lynley, Hollywood’s biggest male star, as they search for a murdered studio fixer’s notebook—while navigating a relationship that must remain hidden under the restrictions of the Hays Code.
The visual concept balances glamour, secrecy and danger. Tommy and Jack occupy the center of the composition, their proximity suggesting a restrained but intense connection. The notebook becomes the narrative link between them, while dramatic beams of light and geometric architecture evoke the artificial spectacle of Golden Age Hollywood.")

To capture the organic, playful, and sensitive tone of the text, I stepped away from digital fonts. Instead, I spent hours diving into library archives and personal collections, sourcing authentic vintage typography and Art Nouveau clippings. The fluid, ornamental nature of these historical letters perfectly matched the poem's voice.
Every single character and fragment was consciously curated. I learned that to truly tell this story, the rigorous curation of the letterforms was just as decisive as their grid-defying layout. The result is a highly tactile, expressive zine with a strong organic imprint.")

Originally created for the Premio a la Imagen Latinoamericana 2026 — “Alegría Latina”, the piece explores joy as something deeply connected to heritage: a visual energy carried through textiles, ornaments, gestures, music, and celebration.
The illustration was later expanded into a series of fictional editorial and print applications, including magazine covers, art prints, notebooks, and large-format posters. These mockups explore how the artwork could live across cultural publications, editorial features, visual campaigns, and illustrated products.
The project combines bold geometric patterns, warm color contrasts, traditional-inspired details, and a contemporary graphic language to create a piece that feels festive, emotional, and visually impactful.")

The goal was to create a warm, nostalgic character with a simple and slightly worn look, inspired by old Little League jacket patches and mid-century cartoon mascots.
The design uses a limited brand color palette of red, green, black, white, and a soft skin tone, with expressive shapes, bold linework, and a handmade retro texture. This concept was developed as an initial sketch, with the intention of refining the proportions, linework, color balance, and vintage print effect in the final illustration.")
