Volume 1 introduces the journey with a classic forested blue-and-gold palette, featuring a young hero and his mythical companion. Volume 2 contrasts this with a luminous swamp scene, where the protagonist stands alone in light armor amid a glowing cluster of fairy lights—one of which, affectionately named Thistlewick, hovers at her shoulder.")

The author wanted a hero that looked arrogant, big smile, and, what I took from that was, basically Gaston energy! This guy just fits the bill, doesn't he? And the test and overall result is super bright. We did it in an industry paperback size for fun.")

The details really reflect her story, and she's super happy with it!")
:format(webp)/99designs-contests-attachments/155/155214/attachment_155214237 "I love how our subject is headed to the right, off down the road of peace and happiness. It definitely tells a story. The last word of the title being separated illustrates the \"unlocked\" concept.
I also like how her hair adds a bit of interesting color to the image.")
:format(webp)/99designs-contests-attachments/155/155137/attachment_155137704 "I wanted the book to still be attractive, even the the topic is not a traditionally attractive one.")
:format(webp)/99designs-contests-attachments/155/155153/attachment_155153791 "This was such a fun cover! I love how whimsical it is, yet you still see the title very well. The colors are bold and welcoming. It has a bit of a Harry Potter geeky vibe, which I think works for this age range (and their parents!).")
:format(webp)/99designs-contests-attachments/155/155111/attachment_155111120 "I decided to use a simple pencil motif, and the STOP sign is a cool and universal way to halt the pencil from getting to the page.")

:format(webp)/99designs-contests-attachments/97/97992/attachment_97992537 "This is one of my favorite covers and I am SO glad the author decided to pick it! It is set in LA, so that is portrayed on the back.")

I really like how this one came together - the class that's obvious in the couple, the slighly retro, sepia-tinted vibe, and the elegant and slightly ghostly typeface.")

I enjoyed creating this beautiful cover where the main character looks a little older and wiser than she did in the first book.")
:format(webp)/99designs-contests-attachments/110/110768/attachment_110768097 "The author wanted the color yellow to feature prominently in the cover. As anorexic girls often want to sort of disappear, figuratively speaking, I conveyed that with this image, and it spoke to the author.")
