Bespoke modernist wordmark for engineering firm

SDR (abbreviation of Structural Design Resource) designs steel connections, framing, stairs, rails, etc. The SDR has been constructed literally from scratch. Instead of modifying an existing font, this way I was able to arrive at a consistent and distinct look. The precise curves and sharp angles are reminiscent of bent/formed steel constructions and are obviously related to engineering in style - this alone carries the story and message behind the wordmark.

Base from the brief I have first sketch the character, backgrounds and the over-all layout of texts in Photoshop. I just simply merge all shapes paste it on Illustrator then manually color each shape.
