Valeria Is an Alien — Satirical Sci-Fi Book Cover Design

A bold illustrated cover for Valeria Is an Alien, a provocative dark comedy set in near-future London. The goal was to balance the novel’s themes of gender, identity, politics and social satire with its absurd sci-fi premise, without making the design feel like conventional science fiction. A UFO abduction beam becomes the central compositional device, framing Valeria while naturally carrying the title toward the London skyline. The limited red, blue and pink palette, oversized typography and playful retro-inspired graphics give the cover an irreverent editorial character that reflects the book’s humor while keeping the alien premise immediately recognizable.
